The Scout Scoop
Popcorn forms and prize selections are due!

These are the last few days to make sure we step in and have our best selling year ever! There are a lot of exiciting prizes awarded to the boys on a district level, as well as the return of "Cream the Cubmaster" and gift certificates to the highest sellers on the pack level. Most importantly, we as a pack family reap the benefit of great sales. All forms are due to me by Friday the 28th (the day after Thanksgiving) . Prize selections must be listed on the forms at that time. Due to the sale extension we won't get a second chance to order prizes, so please make sure your scout picks what he wants. In this, my third and final year as the popcorn "kernel", I'd like to request that every family get involved, I'm dying for that Blue Bell Ice Cream party!

Pack 1550 can use your help

Pack 1550 is promoting the collection of the following items to tie into the “Seeds of Kindness” theme for November.  We will collect the items at the October and November Pack meetings, so have the scouts in your den bring them directly to the pack meetings, or you can collect them at your den meeting and you can bring the items to the pack meetings.

We are collecting non-perishable food items to help replenish Northwest Assistance Ministry’s ( NAM ’s) food pantry.

We are also collecting items to send to the troops overseas in Iraq , Afghanistan , and Kuwait .  See the link below for a list of items commonly requested by the troops.

http://www.cypress-cares.org/SUGGESTEDDONATIONS.html

Other items include:

  • dried fruit
  • banana chips (and lots of them!)
  • shave gel
  • after shave with moisturizers (dry skin)
  • razors (gillette and fusion)
  •  beef jerky (again a favorite)
  •   nuts
  • trail mix
  • Amazon.com gift cards (one of the only places that ships to Iraq and the guys all shop there ALL THE TIME. Seriously more than they should)
  •  Phone cards
  •  Men's Health or other Men's magazines (obviously of the non pornographic sort)
  • Homemade cookies (if the mom's like to do it, the guys love homemade cookies. Put in plastic baggies or tins and they keep fine)

You can get boxes at the post office to pack the items in – no limit on the weight.

Also, scouts can collect the pull tabs from soda cans to support the Ronald McDonald House.  Bring the pull tabs to the Pack Meeting to fill up our Ronald McDonald House.

Fall campout is here

The Fall campout is this weekend.  Go to the calendar page link  below to see the complete schedule for the weekend.

Things to remember:

  • Travel time is about 1 hour and 45 minutes with no traffic.
  • It gets dark between 6:30-7pm so get set up before that time.
  • Did you bring eveything, here is a check list.
  • Did you print the map?  Click here to get it with directions.
  • The park charges at the gate a $3 fee per person, per day for 13 and older.

For more details go to the pack calendar.

September 23rd Pack meeting will be rescheduled

With all of the power outages including Ehrhardt the September 23rd pack meeting has been cancelled.  Michael is trying to get it rescheduled for Sept 30th because of the need for Fall campout registration and money.

Check back later for more information.

Please Return these forms to your den leader

This year we have had a few changes and need a couple additional document turned in ASAP.  Please print and return these forms to your den leader as so as possible.  These are NOT optional and are required to stay in the pack.

Klein Has closed schools due to Ike
Due to Hurricane Ike, all schools will be closed in the Klein ISD on Friday, September 12th. In addition, all athletic and extracurricular activities have been cancelled for Thursday night through Sunday night.
Getting ready for the upcoming scout year

Our boys have worked hard this past year and it is time to make sure their uniforms are in check and up-to-date. I, like many other parents, have problems remembering where to put patches on the uniform. So I would like to share with you a couple of common uniform patches.

Common patch placement

  1. Outdoor activity patch - Right pocket flap. The same pocket the achievement beads hang from.
  2. Arrow points (for Bears and Wolves) - Under the left pocket. Start with gold arrow just under the rank they belong to followed by a double row of the silver arrow points.
  3. Service star - Just above the left pocket centered.

I will be posting the full inspection sheet later.

School night to join Scouting

It's a new year but it's never too late to join the Cub Scouts.

School night to join Scouting will be held at the Ehrhardt Elementary cafeteria September 9th from 7 pm - 10 pm.  This event is for new scouts and their families.  That evening we will talking to the adults about the program as well as showing your new scout what it is like to be a Cub scout.

Don't forget, you are also invited to join existing scouts at our annual pool party at the Spring Creek Forest pool Sept. 5th from 6 pm - 9pm.  We will have music, pizza and fun.

If you would like to talk to a Pack 1550 representative email us at fun@mypack1550.org

See you there.
